United Way works closely to assist low-to-moderate income people in preparing and filling their tax returns free of charge.  Last year, 3,600 community members were assisted generating more than $2 million in tax returns.  You can play a part in this valuable community service which helps families receive their Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

Tax Preparers receive IRS training and work one-on-one with clients to file their taxes in United Way's Tax Center.  Volunteers engage with clients and ask questions to ensure accurate and complete returns are filed.  Throughout the process, volunteer preparers have access to on-site tax specialists to answer questions related to filing returns.  One-day classroom training is provided beginning in November to help complete open-book certification.

Once certified, you can volunteer to complete tax returns for members of our community and choose days and times that best fit your schedule.  During tax season, the tax center is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. and some Saturdays.

If you want to volunteer throughout the year, opportunities are available as well.
