MOW Volunteers: Packing and Loading Meals

Due to the COVID-19 Crisis, the Meals on Wheels program has changed the way they are delivering food to their clients.  The homebound seniors that receive meals through the program have a frozen 7-pack of meals delivered weekly instead of daily.  

Volunteers are needed to help prepare food boxes for delivery that takes place on Wednesday mornings. Volunteers will be assisting with packing juice into 250 plus bags and assist with loading vehicles of the volunteers delivering food!  This activity will be done outside in a covered area, social distancing is observed.  Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes (t-shirt, leggings/jeans, tennis shoes) as you will be on your feet the entire time.

Effective 01/20/2021 Delivery volunteers will pick-up meals at the new UWCA building.  Volunteers packing and loading meals will come to the new building as well to begin volunteering.  

Directions below: 
Follow directions to UWCA at 3620 8th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL, 35222. When you top the hill at 36th Street, turn right.  Go to the stop sign and turn left onto 38th Street.   Turn left into the driveway on your left, in front of the new UWCA building.

Requirement Details
Wondering if you should register to volunteer? Based on the CDC guidelines, we are asking you the following questions:
  1. Have you been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19? See the CDC’s risk assessment guidance.

  2. Do you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19? Symptoms can include a cough or shortness of breath or at least two of the following: Fever, Chills, Repeated shaking with chills, Muscle pain, Headache, Sore throat, New loss of taste or smell. See the CDC’s symptom information.

If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, we ask you not to register. We are doing all we can to align with best practices and keep our community healthy.
Parking Details
Please park at the east side (the bigger side) of the parking lot to leave plenty of space for the buses and vehicles picking-up food to pull through and turn around.
