2-1-1 Call Center Operator (Remote) - General Interest

Volunteers are needed for United Way of Central Alabama's 2-1-1 Call Center.  Like helping people?  Like talking on the phone?  After attending a two-hour, in-person training (between 10am - 2pm on a weekday), you can volunteer from the comfort of your own home during set hours (weekdays between 8am - 4:30pm).

UWCA's 2-1-1 Call Center provides information and referrals to people who need assistance, serving as the entry point to various UWCA initiatives and others throughout the community.  2-1-1 draws from an evolving database of resources with more than 800 providers at 1,700 service points in the six-county region.

Volunteer Responsibilities   

·         Answer UWCA 2-1-1 Information & Referral line promptly and with excellent customer service skills

·         Assess caller’s challenges and determine appropriate community-based services/referrals through an easy-to-use on-line database

·         Interpret referral resources to caller to ensure that the caller understands how that referral can help them

·         Schedule roundtrip rides for eligible callers through the Lyft concierge portal

·         Maintain and report Lyft ride data as needed

Knowledge & Skills:

Volunteer should possess good written, oral and computer skills including using the internet and email.  Volunteer should be comfortable spending most of the time on the phone and is passionate about helping others.


*Volunteers will be required to attend 2 hours of in-person training (onsite at the 2-1-1 Call Center) before they are eligible to volunteer remotely.  Other requirements:
