I enjoyed getting ready for and attending the CAC inaugural Women’s Appreciation Awards
I enjoyed volunteering at Youth Towers' downtown location. During my time volunteering, I learned more about the different programs Youth Towers has to offer, and I sat in during an ISP to see how Youth Towers starts to serve its participants.
I enjoyed volunteering with YouthTowers at one of their transitional housing homes by sorting donations.
Researched how to write grants and different grants that would be available to Youth Towers that are in Alabama and will start working on writing to try to get some soon.
I spent a couple of hours advocating for youth towers and explaining to a new nonprofit called Foster Coalition what population youth towers serve and what services they offer so they could potentially use them as a resource in the future. I explained their services include Street Outreach-unsheltered only, Homelessness Prevention-at risk of homeless, Rapid Re-housing, Case Management, Transportation (Bus Passes), Housing Relocation and Stabilization, Career Counseling, Job Prep, Tutoring, Life Skill Training. In conclusion, I think the conversation I had with Foster Coalition went very well and now they know more about Youth Towers in case they need to refer someone to them. What I liked most about this experience was advocating for Youth Towers. The most challenging part of this experience was explaining Youth Towers to someone who had never heard of them. My key takeaway was word of mouth is a great way to get the word out about an organization.
I really enjoyed reviewing the website, documents, and conference call sent by Mrs. Westery to get a general understanding of what Youth Towers is and what they do to serve the community. Also, to get a better idea of what I can do throughout the semester to earn my hours.
