Conversation Starters for Healing Words. Conversations starters are extremely important with healing words as they are essential to keeping the patient comfortable with your presence and interactions. Conversation can be awkward and that's okay, but having a few ideas of things to talk about always makes it easier and it does get easier as time goes on in general.

Orientation video for Healing Words on proper handwashing. Handwashing is extremely important in any hospital setting, and even more so with a pandemic going on! Proper handwashing includes 20 seconds of scrubbing all parts of the hands to create a lather because its the friction that kills the bacteria. Handwashing is the main way to avoid spreading diseases.

Mandated Reported Training for Adult Abuse was interesting as I am already a mandated reporter for child abuse. I wish the modules were longer, as it felt too easy to get through for such an important subject. It made me think about how common adult abuse is among those who work with the elderly and disabled and how there could be a connection with how easy it is to receive this certificate to work with those populations.

Tips for Future Volunteers
I wish I had this assignment to look at when entering this semester! I had no idea what to expect with Healing Words and I found myself extremely overwhelmed for the first two weeks. I hope this assignment helps someone out in fall!

Activites for Healing Words
I wasn’t sure what activities would be user friendly since they're all online and if there would be a gap, but I tried to pick what I would think would be fun for the majority of patients. I also included printable versions the nurses can print so they don’t have to have a computer or smart phone to have activities!

Essay on growing as a volunteer
I enjoyed writing this because it made me reflect upon myself on how I’ve changed in such little time. I never thought I’d end up working with the geriatric population after my personal biases but I’m glad I got over it. I’m pleased to have the opportunity to work with Healing Words, no matter how short the time was.

Resource List for College Students
Me and other social work students have had our own group chat for a while and so I had discussed resources with them beforehand, making me prepared for this assignment. I really try my best to keep in touch with the best resources at certain time periods.
