Ombudsmen are advocates for residents in long-term care facilities (Nursing Homes, Board and Care Homes, Specialty Care and Assisted Living Facilities).  They work with all parties to protect the health, safety, welfare and rights of Alabama's long-term care residents.

The Ombudsman are looking for volunteers who want to serve residents in long term care settings for an extended period of time.  Volunteers work to be an advocate and friendly face at one facility in Jefferson County.  The goal is for each Volunteer Ombudsman to establish a rapport with all of the residents over time at the facility they are assigned.  Volunteers conduct routine friendly visits and reports back to the certified Ombudsman at United Way Area Agency on Aging (UWAAA).
