Sign up here for IN-PERSON training to complete the IRS Volunteer Certification to work on-site at United Way’s Tax Center, helping our neighbors file their returns for free.
These interactive trainings are reserved for volunteers available between 8:00 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday- Friday to commit to volunteer at least 24 hours with United Way of Central Alabama. (UWCA’s Tax Assistance is not open on evenings or weekends). If you would like to train but are unable to commit to volunteering with UWCA, or you won't be available to attend in-person training, you may access registration to RECORDED Zoom version of the training here: https://givepul.se/zwed8k
NOTE: ALL IN-PERSON TRAININGS INTEGRATE BASIC AND ADVANCED TOPICS INTO ONE ADVANCED CLASS. IF YOU ARE NEW TO TAXES, YOU MAY WISH TO (BUT ARE NOT REQUIRED TO) COMPLETE THE BASIC TRAINING ON ZOOM AS AN INTRODUCTION
Volunteers engage with clients and ask questions to ensure accurate and complete returns are filed, helping taxpayers access credits that they are eligible to claim.
Throughout the process, volunteer preparers have access to on-site tax specialists to answer questions related to filing returns.
Once certified, you can volunteer to complete tax returns for members of our community and choose days and times that best fit your schedule, 8:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Requirement Details
Time commitment - Participants are asked to commit to volunteer at least 24 hours with United Way this tax season, between the hours of 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday.
Certification - Volunteers must complete and provide IRS Certification prior to volunteering. At end of training, you will be ready to complete certification test.
Background Check - United Way covers the cost of background check for all volunteers.

Up to 14 hours Continuing Education Credit available after volunteering for the following Professional Groups: Certified Public Accountant, Enrolled Agent, Attorney, Certified Financial Planner, Participants in IRS Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP)
